Turning Trial Into a Brand Experience

Overview
Changing how people thought about prepared meals
Factor had a perception problem common to the prepared-meal category: consumers could understand the convenience and nutritional benefits, but taste and quality were harder to communicate through advertising alone.
The opportunity was to let the product prove itself.
I led Factor’s experiential partnership with HYROX, developing the partnership strategy, activation concept, production buildout, and on-site execution. Instead of simply showing up as a sponsor, we created an experience designed to put Factor directly into athletes’ hands and change perceptions through tasting.
Insight
Some brand barriers can’t be solved with another ad
Prepared meals are highly sensory. Claims around freshness, quality, and taste only go so far when consumers have existing assumptions about food that arrives fully prepared.
We needed to move people from “I don’t think this is for me” to “I didn’t expect it to taste this good.”
That made live trial the strategy, not an add-on. HYROX gave us access to a highly relevant community already thinking about nutrition, performance, recovery, and convenience.
Strategy
Put the product where performance and convenience meet
Rather than create a traditional sponsorship footprint, we designed the activation around Factor’s core consumer promise: high-quality, protein-forward meals without the time and effort of meal prep.
HYROX athletes were an ideal audience. They cared about fueling performance but were also balancing training with demanding everyday lives. Factor could solve a real need while giving consumers an immediate way to experience the product.
I led the partnership from concept through execution, including partnership development, creative direction, experiential concepting, production planning, cross-functional coordination, and the physical activation buildout.

Experience
Making tasting the centerpiece of the brand experience

Partnership
From event sponsorship to a credible role in the athlete journey
Factor became the Official Meal Delivery Partner of HYROX in the U.S., with the partnership extending beyond a single activation into U.S. race sampling and athlete offers.
The brand’s role was naturally connected to the HYROX experience: helping athletes simplify nutrition so they could spend more time training and recovering.
This made the partnership credible because Factor wasn’t simply borrowing the audience. The product solved a real problem for that community.
Impact
Turning skepticism into trial
The activation created an opportunity for Factor to address one of the hardest barriers in its category directly: perception.
Rather than asking consumers to trust a claim about taste and quality, we gave them the experience themselves.
The program also helped establish Factor within performance culture through a partnership with a rapidly growing fitness community, extending the brand beyond traditional meal delivery and into training, recovery, and lifestyle.
The experience was logistically challenging but once launched, had massive sampling volume, qualified leads, conversions, and event reach. They still uphold the partnership to this day.
Takeaway
When the product is the proof, get it into people’s hands
This work reinforced an important brand principle: sometimes the best way to change perception is not more messaging. It is creating the right experience.
By identifying taste as a key barrier and putting Factor inside a culturally relevant performance environment, we turned sampling into a strategic brand tool, giving consumers a new way to understand the product through firsthand experience.
